So it must be 12 months since DoubleShot were guest band for MBAS … I know last time I saw them was in a pub in Ascot Vale in the winter. DoubleShot for those who haven’t seen or heard them are: John Williams (g, v), Michael Emmerling (b) & Glenn Roche (d). They play a mix of original blues & covers of old blues songs done the DoubleShot way.
It was a great guest spot! The sound set-up at the Flemington Bowls Club used by the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society (MBAS) is excellent. DoubleShot began with Slow Train moved through to the stunning & evocative Bluest Blue. And I got to hear my favourite from this band; Fool For Your Stockings.
It was good that the organisers asked them to do an encore before the waiting bands could begin their Jam Night. The encore was DoubleShot’s version of the Oz classic Bad Boy For Love – delivered as we expect, in a way no other band would deliver this song, along with strong bv support from Michael.
Look out for this trio. You will not be disappointed.
